African Speculative Fiction Crowdfunding Campaigns

It’s Black Speculative Fiction Month and there are some great African speculative fiction crowdfunding campaigns going on right now. Check them out!

Ki Khanga
The Georgia-based black speculative fiction duo, Milton Davis and Balogun Ojetade, are at it again. This time, they’re bringing us a sword & soul role-playing game called Ki Khanga. It uses regular playing cards – not dice! – to “resolve conflicts and to achieve feats in a fun and dynamic way that keeps the action and drama moving.” The project has already hit its second stretch goal but there’s still plenty of time to contribute…and even better rewards to receive! If you’re into RPGs but find that they don’t have enough black characters or story arcs, give this a shot. (This project closes Oct. 30 11:59 AM EDT.)

Malika: Warrior Queen Part One
Set in 15th century West Africa, this graphic novel follows the exploits of Queen Malika, who struggles to keep the peace in her ever-expanding kingdom. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, writer/creator Roye Okupe has a passion for African character development. Malika is the followup to his successful graphic novel, E.X.O. – The Legend of Wale Williams (Parts I and II). (This project closes Nov. 1  11:59 PM EDT.)

The Chronicles of the Newborn – Rise of the Mlezi
Long ago in ancient Africa, EVIL sort to engulf the land but the celestial council had a remedy for this uprising…
The Chronicles of the Newborn graphic novel is inspired by myth, legends, legacies and historical events from all over Africa. Peter Daniel, the project’s lead illustrator, concept designer and creator, is the author of AMAZING TEKKIDS, a comic book that teaches kids values and how to plan for the future. (This project closes Oct. 29 2:21 AM EDT.)

If you know of any other campaigns going on right now, let us know in the comments!
