Upcoming What Does the Future Look Like? Events

dezeen_Afrofuture-at-la-Rinascente2aMidwest BSFA is hosting/co-hosting a series of workshops in preparation for a February art showcase on Afrofuturism. We’re pegging the showcase for Black History Month because as a society, we always talk about the past experiences of African-Americans during that month, but with this event, we’d like to focus on their futures. What Does the Future Look Like? will give kids, teens and young adults the chance to show us their interpretations of what the future looks like for black people.

We’re partnering with several organizations to hold workshops around the city in which kids, teens and young adults will use prompts (writing, drawing, etc.) to give us their thoughts around how African-Americans will be represented in the future. Check out one of the following events:

Jan. 10, 4-6 p.m., TeenSpot/MakerSpace, Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County, 800 Vine St., downtown (Cincinnati, OH 45202)
Jan. 21, noon-2 p.m., WordPlay, 4041 Hamilton Ave., Northside (Cincinnati, OH 45223)
Jan. 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Elementz, 1100 Race St., Over-the-Rhine (Cincinnati, OH 45202)

Students at Aiken and Hughes high school will also participate in the event as part of a class assignment. After the workshops, Midwest BSFA will take what was produced during these sessions and display it at a showcase in February.
