It’s Black History Month and I’m back with ongoing list of crowd-funding projects and new works I’m supporting. And you should be supporting, too!
Black Comix Returns
Graphic novelist/professor/editor John Jennings is back with Black Comix Returns, the follow-up to 2010’s Black Comix: African American Independent Comics, Art and Culture. I’m pretty much down to support just about anything Jennings does so I had to get in on the ground floor on this one.
Pearl Rain
Jumai Yusuf’s Pearl Rain is a fantasy/romance short film blending West African myth and European fairytale. Morayo, a spiritual black woman, is stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship. When she meets another man who digs what she has to offer, she has a decision to make – stay put or leave her man and take a chance on the new guy.
Black Power: The Superhero Anthology
Atlanta-based writer/editor Balogun Ojetade strikes again with Black Power: The Superhero Anthology. Ojetade has put together a great lineup that remixes the superhero genre with black heroes of all stripes. “Some have superpowers that make them something more, or less, than human, but others face a dangerous world with only their wits and willpower to aid them. Some of the heroes fight against racism, sexism, gang violence and police brutality. Others combat evil on a cosmic scale. ALL of the stories are entertaining and enlightening.”
So what are you supporting this month?
