The Witches – Which Version is Better?

Midwest BSFA member Renee Tecco gives us her take on The Witches!

People who love the original version of The Witches are saying to skip the remake because it’s a lot like the 1990 version. They are saying to go watch the original. It makes sense that they are a lot alike because both versions follow the book. Roald Dahl, the author of the book The Witches saw the 1990 movie before he died and he didn’t like it because they changed his ending. So some prefer the book better.

Black Speculative Fiction Month is right around the corner and we can’t wait to share all of our recommendations with you! Be on the lookout for interviews with filmmaker Melody Cooper, author Charlie J. Dana Michel: Yellow Towel

Before Dana Michel’s first performance of Yellow Towel at the Contemporary Arts Center this week, a friend of mine emailed a group of women in a local natural hair group to say we should all see this production because it’s about “a poem about hair.” That didn’t exactly end up being true. After seeing Yellow Towel, I don’t think it’s so much “about” hair as it is about how society boxes us in and/or locks us out.
